Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By downloading or using Halo (the "App"), operated by an individual based in New York, USA ("we," "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement.

3. The Service

Halo provides:

• A scanner that reads product barcodes and ingredient lists
• An "Acne Trigger Score" reflecting ingredients commonly associated with acne, derived from public research and our internal scoring methodology
• Lower-scoring alternative suggestions
• Optional scan history (when signed in)

Informational only — not medical advice

The Acne Trigger Score is informational and educational only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Individual skin reactions vary. Do not rely on the App for medical decisions. Consult a licensed dermatologist for medical guidance. We disclaim all liability for outcomes from reliance on the App's information.

4. License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

You may not:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the App or its data
• Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data from the App or our services
• Use the App in violation of any law
• Impersonate others or submit knowingly false product information

5. User contributions

When you contribute scan submissions (barcodes, recognized ingredient text, and optional product names, brands, or categories), you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, and display the contribution in connection with operating the App and improving our database. Contributions are stored anonymously by default.

You represent that your contributions:

• Do not violate any third-party rights (copyright, trademark, privacy)
• Are accurate to the best of your knowledge

We may moderate, remove, or reject contributions at our discretion.

6. Intellectual property

The App, including its scoring methodology, design, code, trademarks, and content (excluding user contributions), is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

7. Subscriptions and payments

Halo offers an optional "Pro" subscription that unlocks unlimited scans and full ingredient breakdowns. Subscriptions are sold and billed through your Apple ID. Subscriptions auto-renew at the then-current price unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Any free trial that goes unused is forfeited when a paid subscription is purchased. Refunds, when offered, follow Apple's standard refund policies.

8. Third-party content and links

Product information may be sourced from public databases (e.g., Open Food Facts, DSLD) or contributed by users. We do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or currency. Links to third-party sites are provided as a convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

9. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF INFORMATION.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE ABOVE, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE ACNE TRIGGER SCORE WILL ACCURATELY PREDICT YOUR INDIVIDUAL REACTION TO ANY PRODUCT.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY (OR $50 IF GREATER).

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising out of your use of the App, your contributions, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. You may stop using the App at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (IP, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, governing law) will survive.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York, unless required otherwise by mandatory consumer protection laws.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
